Cleaning up the apartment and then working on some music…This amp is the reason for my lack of hanging out.
Who needs to hang out when you have an AC30 to keep you company?

Vintage Fender Twins, Deluxes and Bassman combos are cool. The newer Fender tube combos (Hot Rod DeVille/Deluxe) are pretty nice too. Marshall JCM 800s come in combo form. Music Man HD130 is cool, sorta Fendery but its own thing. Vox AC30 and AC15 are always awesome. You can usually score Ampeg Gemini combos on the cheap; they’re fairly low-power and often fragile but they sound beautiful. Then, at the upper limits of portability, there’s the Ampeg VT-22 or VT-40.

I have a strong love for the Vox clean channel. The AC30 which is pictured above is an amp Brian May used on the Queen records and still to this day has one of the best responses. At least in my opinion.

1961 Vox AC30 - If it was good enough for The Beatles and Queen, it should be good enough for you. Arguably Vox’s most famous contribution to the rock and/or roll world, these amps have been in regular use since the late 1950s, but really blew up in 1961-62 with the addition of “Top Boost,” an extra gain stage that provided the AC30 with its trademark brilliance, thereby defining “jangle” for decades to come. Add to that the distinctive Vox look, and you’ve got a legend.
Like all the successful amps of the ’60s, there are many incarnations of the AC30 ranging from slight modifications to “solid-state waste of space.” As such, authentic vintage AC30s go for big bucks on eBay these days, but if they’re in good condition…totally worth it.
