So Sunn heads are pretty much all “older” by default in that they’re no longer in production. Their most recent phase was when they were owned by Fender in the ’90s/early 2000s, and there were Model T reissues and a bass amp called the 300T (still on sale as the Fender Bassman 300), but you don’t want those really. You want to aim a little higher.
On the more affordable side, Sunn’s solid state heads are rad. Great bang for your buck. I got my Coliseum 300 for $280, including shipping. There’s also the Concert Bass, the Beta Bass, and probably some other randos floating around.
If you want to go big or go home, there are the tube amps. Models of note include the 200S, 2000S, Model T (technically a guitar amp but works for either), Sorado, Sonic…the good stuff will cost you upwards of a grand, and those first three especially can fetch up to $2000. Tooootally worth it though. There wouldn’t be a fucking band named after the brand if they weren’t super loud and amazing!

Vintage Ampeg is your best bet, particularly the V-4B – the prices are going up on them but if you can find them for $500 or less go for it. B25s are neat too, though possibly underpowered. For the more affordable stuff: Sunn Coliseum/Coliseum Bass/Coliseum 300. Sunn Concert Bass, Sunn Beta Bass. The Traynor YBA-1 is cool, though a YBA-1A (twice the power) is more sensible for bass purposes. Acoustic’s 300- and 400-series heads are rad. I’ve heard good things about Peavey’s Mark series. I’d go on but the prices are just gonna go up, hopefully this helps.
This is my band’s current setup. Here’s the breakdown.
Guitar:
Ampeg V4
Sunn 2000S
Emperor 6x12
Emperor 3x15
Bass:
Matamp Green Lead 200
Sunn Concert Bass
Ampeg 610HLF
Ampeg SVT-215E

I’m one working speaker away from the bass tone to end all bass tones.
(I know times are tough but I don’t think I would entrust my speaker repairs to a dog)
