This is more or less my ideal rig. Sovtek Mig 100 and Ampeg V4 through Emperor, Orange and Sunn cabs. Damnnnn.

One is an Ampeg V-4(B), so I can check that off. Another is a Sunn Model T (non-reissue). The third is less of a singular amp and more of a “rig,” if you will: an Alembic F-2B bass preamp into the power section of a Hiwatt DR-103 (à la David Gilmour).

Orange heads are rad and would suit you well, but I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that them shits are pricey. You could go for a used SVT (especially if you can get a vintage one on the cheap). I will never not recommend a V-4, but in this case I would only spring for it if you can find a V-4B; with the standard issue model, you may end up with more midrange bite than you wanted. And if you’re really on a budget, scout around for some of Sunn’s solid state bass heads - I found the Coliseum 300 in particular to be extremely versatile and very powerful, with plenty of bottom end.

I am going to assume little discretion as to your price range, so we’ll call “under $1000” reasonably-priced.
Peavey VTM (60W or 120W)
Peavey Butcher
Peavey Ultra
Ampeg V-4 (or V-2)
Sovtek Mig 100
Laney AOR
Red Bear MKE 60
Sunn Sceptre
Sound City 50 (or whatever really)
EDIT: If you’re looking for a more scoopy, modern “high gain” tone, try a Peavey 5150 or 6505, or a Bugera 6262. Gets you them thick chuggas.

I do believe that’s a pair of sunn beta leads driving an emperor 4x12’s and an emperor 2x15 cab.
For anon: King Buzzo’s rig.

Pretty sure the Melvins used Sunn Beta Leads – I would recommend any Sunn solid state heads highly, whether they’re Betas, Concerts or Coliseums.
