I work at Guitar Center (yeah, I know). Quite often on older gear people will have no idea what they’re buying in and will price it lower than they should. I spend most of my days browsing the used and vintage sites to find cool shit that is cheap. Sometimes you find stuff like this V4 and on occasion V4B’s for like $400. I got an Acoustic 320 for $90 two weeks ago.
Figured I’d share the wealth.
FUCK! Someone go for this!!!

Just picked up this Ampeg V9. One of the most often misrepresented / poorly described designs. Despite what you may have read (and the reasonable assumptions you might make) this is NOT a bass head. Though designed with the intention of being more or less “all purpose”, the distortion control on channel two, and most tellingly the reverb control clearly mark this as a guitar amp. As a matter of fact, the preamp is identical to that of the V4, just paired with the 300 watt power section of the SVT. Not a whole lot were produced, likely due to the lack of practical utility in a 300 watt all-tube guitar head that weighs ~90 lbs.
Of course, bass sounds fantastic through it as well. If you like the way V4’s sound with a bass (and I know I do) but want more power to keep up with a loud band, this is the ultimate solution to your problem.
I can now die happy.
