Gibson Les Paul, Peavey head and 2 Emperor Cabs.
Here’s a jawdropping photo from Ironnyk of his Gibson Les Paul Studio running on a Peavey 6505 with Emperor 2x12 and 4x12. Can we take it for granted that the Gibson Les Paul is awesome and wonderful and brilliant, just so that we can focus on the true stars of this shot - the two Emperor cabs that it’s leaning against?
No one can deny that these Chicagoan amp-alchemists have come a long way in the last 6 years, just check out their website for a bit more history and an awesome list of the artists who use them. They seem to be on the path that makes them natural successors to Sunn Amps as the go-to choice for musicians who like their tone loud and heavy, and isn’t that most of us?
The guys at Gearwire put this video on Youtube a few years back with a brief interview with a couple of the guys and some nice footage of one getting put through it’s paces. Not quite the same as standing in front of Buzz Osbourne at a Melvins gig and having your ears melted but it’ll do as a substitute.
Okay…I’m not normally much for Peaveys as y’all know, but I’d go deaf to this.

It’s solid state. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but it seem like a slightly lopsided trade unless you’re REALLY in the market for a shred machine for your death metal jams. I’d see if you could get some cash for it as well if you’re really okay losing out on the combo.
ADVICE FOR ALL: Whenever anyone offers you a trade, always look up the most current average market value of the item they offered. Gotta be fair to yourself. Most trades are a form of low balling, except the rare few where it actually comes down to a matter of necessity.

I suppose it depends on what kind of band I’m with, but shockingly I’d have to go with a 5150 II…I’ve at least been able to dial in a decent range of things from clean to chuggy. I’ve never been 100% satisfied with the JCM 2000 and I just can’t get into Mesa shit (unless time travel is involved and I’m touring with AFI circa Black Sails in the Sunset).

Just gonna throw a bunch of shit off the top of my head and see what sticks:
Peavey 6505, Peavey 5150.
Soldano SLO 100.
Mesa Dual (or Triple) Rec.
Marshall JCM 800 (or 900).
Ampeg V-4.
Peavey VTM120.
Sovtek Mig 100.

Looks like i’ll be throwing some new speakers in the orange. Those v30s kill though! Here’s my rig with my other guitarists 5150 III rig.
