"The HM-2 acts as a great boost on top of an amp's distortion. Gain all the way down and the level at 12-3(too much output to dime the level in this case). The common HM-2 settings are the low and high controls all the way up for that European death metal buzz saw sound, but if you back the high off just a hair, it takes some of the harshness out and fattens up the sound a bit. You still get the same gnarly effect using it as a boost, but it doesn't sound quite as 'distortion pedal into an amp'."
