Fuck Yeah Amp Worship!

Mmm...tone.

Curated by Mike Moschetto, who does not (nor will he ever) claim to know everything.

"Here's a heartbreaking question: Sovtek MIG 60. It turned off the other day while I was playing it and the fuse was blown. I bought new fuses (3A 250 Volt) and the amp turns on now, but as soon as I hit the standby switch the fuse blows and the amp turns off. It appears to me that the fuse is doing its job by blowing in order to protect other components and that there may be something wrong with the circuitry. The other option is that I bought the wrong fuses. Any ideas?"

DUDE! I recently sold my Mig 60 to my bandmate and it’s gone through like 3 fuses since November, seemingly out of nowhere! It sounds like we’re having the same problem, differing only in magnitude. At first, I thought maybe the output gain from my buddy’s pedals was pushing the amp too hard, and thankfully instead of blowing tubes (or worse - transformers), his fuses were getting fried.

HOWEVER, after some greater scrutiny, I think you and I have been buying the wrong fuses.

I don’t know about yours, but my now-ex-Mig states directly under the fuse socket that if you plug your amp into ~220V/50Hz power  - like you might find in Europe, where Sovteks were manufactured - you should pop in a 3A. But this here’s AMUR’CA, where we play baseball and eat hot dogs and watch Jersey Shore and plug into the wall at ~110V/60Hz, so a 5A fuse is recommended.

Hope this works out for you!
