I’m trying to think of the chuggy bands I see when I play shows, and the most common things are 5150s, Mesa Rectifiers and the occasional Randall or some oddball like that. I should think though that unless you score a craaazy deal, they’re a little out of your aforementioned price range. So my first recommendation is pinch pennies and plan to spend a little more, for your own good. If that won’t work, you can scour eBay and Craigslist for cheap stuff, though that’ll be quite a time investment. Other than that, you could do worse than a ValveKing or a B-52 or something I guess. Maybe try a Bugera, though I have only heard mixed things and it might be a risky purchase.
Yeah, save and plan to spend a little more. I’m sticking by that. Like with any gear, the difference of a few hundred bucks goes a long way.
