thecommongrave asked: Making your own cab takes a lot of time, work, a little bit of know how and money. Especially if you want to make it look nice. You have to take certain things into considerations, the speakers, the wood used to build the cab, if you want to cover it levant or make a Emperor style cab, type of grill you want, wiring, jacks and more. My dad and I built a full stack and made a few others. It took us...

Anonymous asked: All these questions about cabinets and speakers, I'm considering making a 4x12 guitar cab, I play in a sludge/doom band. Any thoughts? Should I just save myself the time and buy a used cab instead?

Answer for the guy looking for Swamp Thangs
I’ve got Swamp Thangs in my Fender cabinet, and I can definitely confirm they’ve got huge low end, however, they’re kind of scooped so they need a speaker like the Wizard to pair up with. They’re 150 watts and 102 db sensetivity, so there aren’t many speakers that you can match them up with effectively unfortunately Submitted by the aptly-named swampthangs

bretttgross asked: Hey, I have a ADA MP-1 preamp running through a Sonic Maximizer, then out to a 66 Fender Bassman Blackface head. What i'm having trouble with is finding the right speakers, Celestion g12t-75's wont handle it, they get really flubby in the low end. Any suggestions on speakers? Swamp Thangs? Btw, I play metal, and I tune to drop G on a 7 string. Thanks!

luciddreamsaboutyou asked: Here's a heartbreaking question: Sovtek MIG 60. It turned off the other day while I was playing it and the fuse was blown. I bought new fuses (3A 250 Volt) and the amp turns on now, but as soon as I hit the standby switch the fuse blows and the amp turns off. It appears to me that the fuse is doing its job by blowing in order to protect other components and that there may be something...

Anonymous asked: I mostly play bass in Sludge, Crust, and Power Violence types of bands historically, but now I'm also doing a post-punk/darkwave band. I played a tube amp for a while but the upkeep plus the extreme weight on my bad back was too much. I'm looking for "cheaper" Solid State heads that might sound nice clean for the latter stuff, but would also be receptive to fuzzes and other...

Anonymous asked: Saying the triple x is terrible is very subjective. First of all, this amp has active eq which makes it very touch senstive and doesn't make it idiot proof like a 5150. You actually need to take some time to dial in this amp. Secondly, this amp is voiced very similarly to a mesa rectifier and even hints at the mesa mark series which are both very well liked amps. The xxx also has a ton of...

gregmazur asked: My two cents about the cheaper high gain amp. Peavey VTM or a butcher. If you can find a VTM they are usually in that price range. And if it's good for His Hero Is Gone its good for anyone.

Anonymous asked: My old band was a semi-chuggy hardcore type band, we borrowed a Peavey XXX for a while and I have to say it was the worst. Everyone in the band just wished it would go away. We all ended up preferring the tone of a good pedal into a Sovtek or a V4. Of course this was before the prices on those two amps sorta blew up. Just my experience.

Anonymous asked: May I offer some input on that last question? While I would just save up some more and buy a better head, you CAN find a used Peavey Triple XXX in that price range, sometimes under that. Not my FAVORITE amp in the world, but I'd have one over a Valveking, and the quality/reliability is sure to be better than a B-52 or a Bugera. Just some anonymous 2 cents. Cheers.

elevatedhandslap asked: Regular stage work, I always choose 410hlf over the 810. 810 is over rated and hard to move. 2 410hlf have a much better rang of frequency and tone. For me anyways. The idea of more speakers = better isn't all its made up too be.

thefalsejesii asked: Would you know the difference between a Marshall JMP and a Marshall JCM800? I Have a MIG 100 H (basically a JCM 800 but with 6L6s) and I'm looking to replace my Model T with someone that blends better with the MIG without having to have a dirt pedal.
